Terms of use

Last updated: 15 September 2026

These terms are between you and Matua Holt, trading as MahiMatua. By using Waka you agree to them. Questions: admin@mahimatua.co.nz.

WAKA IS A RECORD KEEPER, NOT A MECHANIC

This is the most important thing on this page.

Waka helps you keep and search your own vehicle records. When it answers a question it tells you which document and which page the answer came from, and when it does not know it says so rather than guessing.

It is still a tool, and it can be wrong. It does not know your vehicle, it has not inspected it, and it cannot tell whether the manual you uploaded is the right one for it.

Nothing in Waka is professional, safety or legal advice. Do not rely on it alone for work that affects the safety or roadworthiness of a vehicle. Check the actual document, and use a qualified person for work that needs one. You are responsible for what you do to your vehicle.

Waka will not read a figure off a scanned table or a diagram, and will show you the page instead. That is deliberate. When it does this, read the page yourself.

YOUR ACCOUNT

WHAT YOU PUT IN

You keep ownership of everything you add. You give us only the permission needed to store it, process it and show it back to you, and to include it in a copy you choose to send someone.

You must have the right to upload what you upload. Manuals and other documents are usually someone's copyright: keep them to your own use and do not use Waka to distribute them.

When you add a vehicle that is not already in the catalogue, the make, model, year and engine become a shared catalogue entry that other people can find. Nothing else about your vehicle is shared this way.

SENDING A COPY

You can give someone their own copy of one vehicle's records. Once they open the link, that copy is theirs, and revoking the link afterwards does not take it back. Check the review screen before you send.

ACCEPTABLE USE

Do not use Waka to break the law, to upload material you have no right to, to attack or overload the service, or to try to reach anyone else's data.

AVAILABILITY

Waka is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always be available or free of faults, and we may change or stop features. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.

LIABILITY

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of data, or for anything arising from work done on a vehicle. Nothing here excludes rights that cannot legally be excluded — including, for consumers in New Zealand, rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

ENDING

You can stop using Waka and delete your account at any time from Profile. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms.

GOVERNING LAW

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
